An Adventure in the Forest

Grammar, Intermediate, Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing / Thursday, January 25th, 2018

The following is a lesson related to the environment which is a topic students of all levels are concerned with. It is addressed to intermediate level students and can be combined with most coursebooks, which have similar lessons and work on writing stories.

Activities

  • Read this story of an adventure in the forest and answer the following reading comprehension questions:
    • Where was the writer? With whom?
    • What was their day like in the beginning? What did they do in the forest?
    • What was the strange event that spoiled their day?
    • What was the lesson the children learnt about life after their experience?
  • Identify the information we have to give in each paragraph when we write a story.
  • Talk about what tenses we use when we narrate a story. For a revision of past tenses you can use this worksheet, too.
  • In pairs, talk about an adventure you had while on holidays. Remember to mention the following:
    • time and place
    • who you were with
    • what really happened
    • how you felt about it
  • Now write your own story. Post all the stories on the linoit canvas provided by the teacher.
  • In the next lesson we can correct all the stories together and try to make up a story as a class. It can be done as a game. Each student can say a sentence and the next one can continue. The crazier the story, the more fun we will have.
